UCC Admission 


GUIDELINES FOR APPLICATION INTO SANDWICH UNDERGRADUATE/DIPLOMA/CERTIFICATE PROGRAMES – UCC (JUNE – JULY)
Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons for admission into SANDWICH undergraduate (Bachelors), Diploma and Certificate programmes of the University of Cape Coast for the 2014/2015 academic year.  Scratch cards for online application are up for sale at the Centres listed below:
1.0       SALES CENTRES
(a) Cash Office, University of Cape Coast.  
(Mode of payment – CASH)
(b) Ghana Post Offices at the Regional Capitals
(Mode of payment – POSTAL ORDER)
(c) University of Cape Coast Accra Office, Tesano, Accra.
(Mode of payment – through any networked Branch of Ghana Commercial Bank, into GCB Kaneshie Industrial Area Branch – Account Number 1201130006903).  A copy of payment-slip should be submitted to the Officer-In-Charge at the Accra Office for the Application Forms.
(d) Kumasi Workers’ College (Mode of Payment – CASH)
COST OF SCRATCH CARD - GH¢190.00
The deadlines for the sale of Scratch Cards for online application and the submission of completed application forms are Friday, 19th December, 2014 and Wednesday, 24th December, 2014 respectively.

2.0       ONLINE APPLICATIONS
a.      Online applicants should visit www.ucc.edu.gh then go to Admissions and click on Apply Online for further instructions. Applicants should select either the CERTIFICATEDIPLOMA or DEGREE SANDWICH application types.
All applicants are required to provide the following information at the back of the large EMS envelope: (a) application reference number (b) full name (c) postal address (d) first choice programme and (e) application category which should beCERTIFICATE SANDWICH or DIPLOMA SANDWICH or DEGREE SANDWICH (Post Diploma).
Applicants are advised to read application instructions as well as the contents of the admissions brochure very carefully before completing the online application form.  Applications on which APPLICATION REFERENCE NUMBERS are not indicated will not be processed.
Applicants are advised to select from the programmes listed below only.
3.0       FACULTY OF SOCIAL SCIENCES
3.1       DEPARTMENT OF HOSPITALITY AND TOURISM MANAGEMENT
1.      B.SC. (TOURISM MAMAGEMENT)
2.      B.SC. (HOSPITALITY MANAGEMENT)
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
Candidates applying for admission into the above programmes should have the relevant requirements, namely:
a.       Diploma in Tourism Management OR Diploma in Hospitality Management, UCC.
b.      Related Diploma Certificate, such as:
·         HND (Tourism)
·         HND (Hotel, Catering and Institutional Management/Hospitality Management)
All candidates should submit certified copies of their transcripts and NAPTEX Certificate with the application. Candidates will be required to pass a selection interview.
DURATION
This is a four-sandwich semester programme to be run on campus during the June-July and December-Januaryvacation periods over two years. The first Semester begins in June, 2015.
FEES:     
Fresh students      –   GH¢2,000.00
Continuing students     –  GH¢1,700.00

3.2   DEPARTMENT OF GEOGRAPHY AND REGIONAL PLANNING
DIPLOMA IN TRANSPORT AND ROAD SAFETY MANAGEMENT
TARGET GROUPS
The programme targets drivers in governmental and non-governmental institutions/organizations, transport unions such as the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), Kingdom Transport, Metro Mass Transport Services (MMTS), Progressive Transport Owners Association (PROTOA), Car Rentals as well as educational Institutions in the country.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
The programme is available to people with Certificates in basic road safety or fleet management from the Road Safety Transportation Consultancies (RSTC) Limited or similar training institutions.
DURATION
Three long vacation semesters lasting 8 weeks each.  The first Semester begins in June, 2015.
FEES
Fresh students – GH¢2,083.00
Continuing students – GH¢1,782.00

3.3       DEPARTMENT OF SOCIOLOGY AND ANTHROPOLOGY
DIPLOMA IN SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR AND CONFLICT MANAGEMENT
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
Candidates applying for admission into the programme should have any of the following:
Certificate in Social Behaviour and Conflict Management from the University of Cape Coast.
Five (5) credit passes at SSSCE/WASSCE including English and Mathematics
GCE ‘A’ level passes in two subjects and ‘O’ level credit passes in English and Mathematics.
GCE ‘O’ level credit passes in five (5) subjects including English and Mathematics.
Teacher’s Cert. ‘A’ with ‘O’ level credit passes in English and Mathematics.
Stenographer Grade Two Certificate.
All candidates will be required to pass a selection interview.
TARGET GROUPS
This programme is open to interested persons who have any of the above qualifications.  In particular, workers in theprotection agencies – the Police Service, Prison Service, Customs, Excise and Preventive Services, Fire Service, Immigration and National Disaster Management Organisation, Teachers and NGOs - are encouraged to apply.
DURATION
Three (3) long vacation semesters lasting eight (8) weeks each.  The First Semester begins in June, 2015.

   B.A. (SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR AND CONFLICT MANAGEMENT)
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

c.       Diploma in Social Behaviour and Conflict Management, UCC.
d.      Related Diploma Certificate, such as:
·         Diploma in Labour Studies – IDS, UCC.
·         Diploma in Labour Studies – GIMPA, Legon.
·         Diploma in Social Work – UG, Legon
All candidates should have obtained at least a Pass at the Diploma Level. Candidates will be required to pass a selection interview.
DURATION
Three (3) long vacation semesters lasting 8 weeks each.  The first Semester begins in June, 2014.

4.0       COLLEGE OF EDUCATION STUDIES
4.1       DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS AND SCIENCE EDUCATION
            B. ED. (HEALTH SCIENCES)
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
i.   Candidates must possess GCE ‘O’ Level certificate with credit passes in five subjects including English LanguageMathematics and General Science. Passes at the GCE ‘A’ Level will be an advantage.
OR
ii.  SSSCE/WASSCE certificate with credit passes (grade ‘D’ or better for SSSCEholders and grade ‘C6’ or better for WASSCE holoders) in five subjects including Core English, Core Mathematics and Integrated Science.
In addition to (i) or (ii) above, candidates must possess a THREE (3) YEAR DIPLOMA awarded by an accredited Health Training Institution with at least THREE (3) YEARS working experience (excluding “rotation” for nurses) in relevant areas such as General Nursing, Environmental Health, Disease Control, Community Health, Midwifery, Nutrition or Psychiatry.

Fees for continuing students -  GH¢ 2, 110.00
            iii.        Pass a Selection Interview
Applicants should ensure that the following documents are submitted together with their applications:
a.       A certified academic transcript showing semester by semester GPA and FCGPA
b.      A certified copy of Licensure Certificate
            DIPLOMA IN HEALTH SCIENCES EDUCATION (Continuing Students Only)

Fees for the Health Sciences Education programmes should be paid into the Health Science Account Number3021130001360 with Ghana Commercial Bank, University of Cape Coast Branch.
4.2       DEPARTMENT OF BASIC EDUCATION
                           CERTIFICATE IN EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION
TARGET GROUP
1. Teachers and attendants who work in pre-school and in Early Childhood Programmes (Day Care Centres, Nursery Schools and Kindergartens).
2. Teachers in Primary Schools who are interested in specializing in Early Childhood Education.
3. Staff of institutions related to child care.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
i. Applicants must be teaching/working in a pre-school or Primary School
ii. Applicants must have sat either SSSCE or WASSSCE or an equivalent examination or must be at least 25 years old.
iii. Applicants must pass an entrance examination and an interview conducted by the Department.
DURATION
The programme is by sandwich and will cover two long vacation periods of eight (8) weeks each (June – July)
Date of Examination: Tuesday, 31st March, 2015 to be followed by interview on the same day.
Fees:    Fresh Students – One Thousand and Twenty-Six Ghana Cedis (GH¢1,026.00)  
            Continuing Students – Eight Hundred and Fifty-Five Ghana Cedis (GH¢855.00)

            DIPLOMA IN EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION
TARGET GROUP
1.            Untrained early childhood teachers
2.            Teachers in Basic Schools interested in early childhood education
3.            Staff of NGOs working in child care institutions
4.            Staff of Ministry of Women and Children’s Affairs
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
a.  Direct Entry
(i) Post-Senior High School Candidates with credit passes in 5 subjects. Three of the five subjects must be core subjects (including English languageMathematics and either Integrated Science or Social Studies) and two elective subjects with a minimum aggregate of 20 for SSSCE and 30 for WASSCE. 
(ii) Applicants with Teachers Certificate ‘A’ or Certificate in Early Childhood Education from recognised institutions with a CGPA of 2.5 or better.
b.  Entry through Exams and Interview
(i)  Mature candidates
Applicants must be 25 years and above and must be holders of a Senior High School Certificate.
(ii) Applicants with certificate in Early Childhood Education from recognised institutions.
Note:  Candidates in category ‘b’ will be required to pass a selection examination and   interview fromWednesday, 8th April – Friday, 10th April 2015
DURATION
The programme is by sandwich and will cover three long vacation periods of eight (8) weeks each (June – July)

B.ED. (EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION)
Target Group
i.  Teachers in Basic Schools interested in early childhood education

iii.    Agencies of the Ministry of Gender, Women,Children and Social Protection
Entry Requirements
                        i.    Direct Entry
Applicants must possess Diploma in Early Childhood Education from a recognised institution with a CGPA of 2.5 or better.
ii.            Access Entry
Applicants must possess Diploma in Early Childhood Education from a recognised institution with a CGPA between 1.5 and 2.4. All such applicants will be required to pass a selection examination and interview on Thursday, 16th April 2015.
Duration of Programme
The programme is by sandwich and will cover three long vacation periods of eight (8) weeks each (June – July)

5.0       SCHOOL OF BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES
5.1       DEPARTMENT OF BIOMEDICAL AND FORENSIC SCIENCES
CERTIFICATE IN HERBAL MEDICINE
Target Group
Traditional Medicine Practitioners who belong to the Ghana Federation of Traditional Medicine Practitioners’ Associations (GHAFTRAM).
Entry Requirements
Applicants should be mature candidates not below the age of 25 years and must be members of the Ghana Federation of Traditional Medicine Practitioners’ Associations (GHAFTRAM).  Individual applicants must pass an entrance examination and interview conducted by the Department of Biomedical and Forensic Sciences.
Goals and Objectives of the Programme
The programme aims at producing competent and scientifically trained Traditional Herbal Practitioners who
i.                    Are innovative and can provide exemplary leadership in herbal medicine practice in Ghana
ii.                  Have the knowledge and skills to be able to provide meaningful solutions to public health related problems in the area of herbal medicine
iii.                Have entrepreneurial skills to be able to establish and/or improve upon their own bio-enterprise and create jobs for others.
Duration of Programme
The programme will be run on sandwich basis and will cover two long vacation periods of eight (8) weeks each (June – July).  The first semester will take place at the Department of Biomedical and Forensic Sciences, UCC while the second semester will take place at the Centre for Plant Medicine Research, Mampong-Akwapim.
Fees:

6.0       SCHOOL OF PHYSICAL SCIENCES
6.1       DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICS
B.Sc. (ENGINEERING PHYSICS) 
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants should possess a good HND - preferably a second class or better or its equivalent (in Engineering) from a recognized Polytechnic or Institution.
DURATION
Four (4) long vacation periods (8 weeks each).
Next Semester: June – July, 2015
Fees for the Semester
Fresh Students:   One Thousand, Eight Hundred Ghana Cedis (GH¢1,800.00)
Continuing Students: One Thousand, Seven Hundred Ghana Cedis (GH¢1,700.00)

6.2       DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY
            B.Sc. (WATER & SANITATION)
TARGET GROUPS
The main target groups are:
i.                    Environmental Health Staff in the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs).  
ii.                  Polytechnic graduates with relevant engineering background.
iii.                Professionals in other water and sanitation sector organisations with relevant entry requirement and work experience. 
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
Prospective candidates are expected to possess at least one of the following qualifications and pass an admission interview:
(i)     Diploma in Water and Sanitation from the University of Cape Coast or its equivalent from any recognized University.
(ii)     Diploma in Environmental Health or Environmental Health Technology from Accra School of Hygiene and any recognized University.
(iii)    Higher National Diploma (HND) in Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
DURATION
Four (4) Sandwich Semesters, (8 weeks each) followed by supervised field work during vacation.
Next Sandwich Semester      June – July, 2015
FEES:
Admission is on fee-paying basis. The fee for the 2014/2015 academic year is as follows:
Fresh Students: Two Thousand, One Hundred and Sixteen Ghana Cedis (GH¢2,116.00), excluding accommodation.

 (ii)       Mature candidates (twenty-five (25) years or above), with  minimum of three O’level or SSSCE/WASSCE passes including EnglishMathematics and one Science Subject (Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Integrated Science) and at least three years working experience in a relevant field.
DURATION
Two (2) Years
First Semester: June-July, 2015 (8 weeks)
FEES: Admission is on fee-paying basis. The fee for the 2014/2015 academic year is as follows:

i.         Applicants should posses a good HND/Diploma in Science Laboratory, Laboratory Technology, Chemical Engineering, Medical Laboratory Technology – with, at least a second class (lower division) or its equivalent from a recognized tertiary institution.
ii.     All candidates will be required to pass an interview
DURATION
Four (4) long vacation periods (8 weeks each).
 Next Semester: June – July, 2014

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
The programme is available to holders of Higher National Diploma (HND) Accountancy or its equivalent, who obtained Second Class Division or better.
Applicants should ensure that the following documents are submitted together with the application forms.
1.      A certified academic transcript showing semester by semester GPA and FCGPA.
2.      A certified copy each of NAPTEX certificate and results slip.
DURATION
The programme is run over four (4) Sandwich Semesters.
FEES:
Admission will be on fee-paying basis. The fees for the 2014/2015 Sandwich Semester (June -July, 2015) are as follows:
i.        Fresh Students: One Thousand and Eight Hundred Ghana Cedis (GH¢1,800.00).
ii.        Continuing Students: One Thousand, Five Hundred and Fifty Ghana Cedis (GH¢1,550.00).

7.2       DEPARTMENT OF MANAGEMENT STUDIES
1.      BACHELOR OF COMMERCE (MANAGEMENT)
2.      BACHELOR OF COMMERCE (PROCUREMENT & SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT)
3.      BACHELOR OF SCIENCE (MARKETING)
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
1.      Higher National Diploma (or its equivalent) in Marketing, Accountancy, Purchasing and Supply, Secretaryship and Management Studies as well as other business related areas from any recognized tertiary institution.
2.      Any other Diploma from any recognized tertiary institution or professional body MAY be considered.
The programme is available to holders of Higher National Diploma (HND) or its equivalent, who obtained Second Class Division or better.
Applicants should ensure that the following documents are submitted together with the application forms.
1.      A certified academic transcript showing semester by semester GPA and FCGPA.
2.      A certified copy each of NAPTEX certificate and results slip.
DURATION
The programmes are run over four (4) Sandwich Semesters
FEES:
Admission will be on fee-paying basis. The fees for the 2014/2015 Sandwich Semester (June –July 2015) are:
i.     Fresh Students:     Two Thousand, Four Hundred and Ninety-Three Ghana Cedis (GH¢2,493.00)
ii.      Continuing Students:         One Thousand, Nine Hundred and Thirty-One Ghana Cedis (GH¢1, 931.00).

8.0       FACULTY OF ARTS
8.1       DEPARTMENT OF FRENCH
            DIPLOMA IN FRENCH FOR SPECIAL PURPOSES
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS/TARGET GROUP:
Applicants must be holders of at least a Secondary School Leaving Certificate and must have studied French at that level. Specifically, the programme is designed for Diplomats, Business Executives, Professionals in various fields and Private Individuals who require an ‘operational knowledge’ of French for their specific purposes.
An oral/written examination will form the basis of selection and categorizing of candidates.
DURATION
The programme is run over two (2) long vacation periods (Sandwich Semesters).
FEES:
Admission will be on fee-paying basis. The fees for the 2013/2014 Sandwich Semester (June -July, 2015) are as follows:
i.     Fresh Students (Ghanaian): Two Thousand and Thirty Ghana Cedis (GH¢2,030.00).
ii.    Fresh Students (Foreign):  Two Thousand and Thirty Dollars (US$2,030.00).

8.2       DEPARTMENT OF RELIGION AND HUMAN VALUES
            DIPLOMA IN RELIGION AND HUMAN VALUES
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS/TARGET GROUP:
Candidates applying for admission into the programme must be holders of any one of the following:
i.                    Five (5) credit passes at SSSCE/WASSCE including English and Mathematics
ii.                  Teachers’ Certificate
iii.                Certificate in Ministry from a recognized institution
iv.                Persons who show evidence of involvement in Ministry or teaching over a long period (special admission)
All candidates will be required to pass a selection interview.
TARGET GROUPS
i.  Teachers
ii.   Pastors
iii.   Persons working with para-Church
DURATION
The programme is run over two (2) long vacation periods (Sandwich Semesters) lasting eight (8) weeks each.  The first semester begins in June, 2015.
FEES:
Admission will be on fee-paying basis. The fees for the 2014/2015 Sandwich Semester (June -July, 2015) are as follows:
i. Fresh Students: Two Thousand, One Hundred Ghana Cedis (GH¢2,100.00). 

9.0       SCHOOL OF NURSING
1.      B.Sc. (NURSING)
TARGET GROUPS
Professionals with Nursing Diploma who are currently working in the Health Services on a full or part-time basis.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must:
i.    Be Registered General Nurses (RGN) with a minimum working experience of not less than three (3) years.
ii.    Have an active registration with the Nurses and Midwives Council (NMC).
iii.    Pass an examination and an interview
If offered a place, the candidate must complete a health check and provide satisfactory references.
DURATION
Three (3) sandwich semesters each lasting eigth (8) weeks (June-July) followed by inter- semester courses during the vacation. 
First Semester: June-July, 2015
FEES: Admission is on fee-paying basis. The fee for the 2013/2014 academic year is as follows:
Fresh Students:  Three Thousand and Fifty Ghana Cedis (GH¢3,050.00), excluding accommodation.
Continuing Students: Two Thousand, Eight Hundred Ghana Cedis (GH¢2,800.00), excluding accommodation.

2.      B.Sc. (MENTAL HEALTH NURSING)
TARGET GROUPS
The programme is targeted at Nurses who are currently working in the Health Services on a full or part-time basis.
 ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
  Applicants must:
i.      Be Registered Nurses (RMN or RGN) with a Certificate or a Diploma from a recognized institution with a minimum working experience of three (3) years.
ii.     Have an active registration with the Nurses and Midwives Council (NMC).
iii.        Pass a written test followed by a formal interview
If offered a place, the candidate must complete a health check and provide satisfactory references.
DURATION
Three (3) sandwich semesters each lasting eigth (8) weeks (June-July) followed by inter- semester courses during the vacation. 
First Semester: June-July, 2015
FEES: Admission is on fee-paying basis. The fee for the 2013/2014 academic year is as follows:

3.      B.Sc. (COMMUNITY MENTAL HEALTH NURSING)
TARGET GROUPS
The programme is targeted at Mental HealthNurses who are currently working in the Health Services on a full or part-time basis.
 ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
  Applicants must:
iv.    Be Registered Mental Health Nurses (RMN) with a Certificate or a Diploma from a recognized Nurses’ Training College (NTC)  with a minimum working experience of three (3) years.
v.      Have an active registration with the Nurses and Midwives Council (NMC).
vi.        Pass a written test followed by an interview
If offered a place, the candidate must complete a health check and provide satisfactory references.
DURATION
Three (3) sandwich semesters each lasting eigth (8) weeks (June-July) followed by inter- semester courses during the vacation. 
First Semester: June-July, 2015
FEES: Admission is on fee-paying basis. The fee for the 2013/2014 academic year is as follows:
Fresh Students:  Three Thousand and Fifty Ghana Cedis (GH¢3,050.00), excluding accommodation.
Continuing Students: Two Thousand, Six Hundred Ghana Cedis (GH¢2,600.00), excluding accommodation.
Fees should be paid by direct deposit into the Department of Nursing Account No. 0221900040004 at the Prudential Bank, UCC.   Students will be required to produce their pay-in slips at the time of registration. Please DO NOT USE bank drafts or payment orders.
10.0     ACCOMMODATION
The sandwich programmes are residential, and students outside Cape Coast will be responsible for securing their own accommodation on campus. There are accommodation options in the halls of residence to choose from.
11.0     COMPLETION OF APPLICATION FORMS
Applicants are advised to read, very carefully, instructions on the admission forms before completing them. 
Applicants are required to give the following information at the back of the large EMS envelope: (a) Full name (b) Postal Address (c) Programme.
12.0     SUBMISSION OF COPIES OF COMPLETED ONLINE APPLICATION FORMS
(a)   All completed application forms should be sent by POST and NOT delivered by hand
(b)   All completed Application Forms should reach THE DEPUTY REGISTRAR, DIVISION OF ACADEMIC AFFAIRS, UNIVERSITY OF CAPE COAST by Friday, 19th December, 2014.
(c)    No additional documents will be accepted after submission of application forms
