MODULAR (MCHAD) PROGRAMMES
MSc/MPhil in Community Health and Development (Modular)
STRUCTURE
OF THE PROGRAMMES (MCHAD) MODULAR
The
programme comprises 13 modules (10 taught courses, field analysis, dissertation
and one module of field attachment). All the modules are compulsory and there
is an examination at the end of each module. Field visits are also part of most
of the taught modules. Module 11 has elective courses.
A
student may take all the modules continuously or break the modules to his
convenience. He/she will then have to take the modules with another year group
or when a re-take is being
organized. When a student completes all
the modules and has done a dissertation of 20,000 words, he/she is awarded an
M.Sc. Where a student opts for an MPhil, he/she would have to spend six months
or more working on a thesis of 40,000 words. An MSc would last 16 months and an
MPhil, 18 months when taken continuously. The maximum duration allowable for
students taking the modules intermittently either for MSc or MPhil is three
years. Selection into the MPhil also depends on an average score of B+. Where a
student is unable to finish his studies by the end of the stipulated period,
the student will have to apply for extension and register with the new fees.
The
modules on offer for the 2013/2014 Academic Year are summarized in
chronological order, and can be found on our website: www.uds.edu.gh
