PRIVATE UNIVERSITIES IN GHANA
INTRODUCTION
Even though, Ghana’s private sector has
played a signifant part in the country’s formal education for a long time. It
received a boost in the late 1990s. In
this respect, the churches are again playing a leading role in their
establishment. These institutions are still very small, compared to most of the
public tertiary institution and they are all coeducational.
A key feature of most them, however, is that they
charge relatively high fees for their service compared to the public
institutions. In spite of this, they are enjoying increasingly great patronage
and they are rapidly expanding. Most of them however, are yet to develop
adequate campus residential facilities comparable to what the public
universities have. Nevertheless, some of them have good hostel facilities for
students. Currently, the accredited private tertiary institution in Ghana are:
