UNIVERSITY OF CAPE COAST, CAPE COAST.

                        INTRODUCTION
 The University of Cape Coast was established in 1962 and it is the third largest tertiary institution in Ghana. It is located at Cape Coast in the Central Region of Ghana. It was originally established to train graduate professional teachers for Ghana’s second cycle institutions as well as the Ministry of Education. Today in addition to the above, the University offers a wide range of academic programmes in the Arts, Education, Social Sciences, Sciences and Agriculture. Its version is to become a centre of Excellence in Africa and the world for human resource and entrepreneurship development in education and related sectors.
    Total students population is about 16,442 in  2004/02. The University has an academic staff strength of over 350 and non – academic staff strength of about 2,000. In 2004/05, about 17,000 candidates applied for admission, out of which about 4,218 were admitted. The number admitted is made up of 3,890 undergraduate and the rest made up of Diplomats, Masters and PhD students. Due to the influx of students in recent years, the University currently has limited accommodation in six halls of residence, a situation which implies that a large number of students are non – residential. Its key strength lies in its Educational programmes, however, the most sort after courses in this University are its Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Secretary ship and Management Studies.



            LOCATION OF UNIVERSITY OF CAPE COAST

Location:
The UNIVERSITY OF CAPE COAST, GHANA, is one of the rare sea-front Universities in the World. Its main entrance is only about 50 meters from the Atlantic Ocean. It is strategically located along the shores of the Gulf of Guinea, midway between the famous Cape Coast Castle, the first seat of the British Government until 1879 and the Elmina Castle, the first point of call of the first European merchants to the Gold Coast in 1847.

Mission:
The University was established in 1962 originally to train graduate professional teachers for Ghana's second cycle institutions as well as the Ministry of Education. Today, in addition to the above, the University offers a wide range of academic programmes in the Arts, Education, Social Sciences, Sciences, Business, Agriculture and Medicine.

Vision:
The vision of the University is to become a Centre of Excellence in Africa and the world for human resource and entrepreneurship development in education and related sectors.  Academic Programmes: The academic programmes of the University are vested in its eight Faculties/Schools. The Faculties of Arts, Education, Social Sciences and the Schools of Agriculture, Business, Physical, Biological and Medical Sciences. The Faculties/Schools are each headed by a Dean and are sub-divided into Academic Departments, Institutes and Centres. There are also an Academic Quality Assurance Unit (AQAU) and a Professional Counselling Centre. The Departments also offer academic counselling to students. All together, over 50 academic programmes are mounted each year at the Diploma, Bachelor, Master's and Doctorate levels.
Library Facilities: The University has an ultra-modern library complex. It has capacity for stocking about 750,000 volumes as well as a seating capacity for 2000 readers. In addition to the E-mail and Internet, the Library also has an Inter-Library Loan and Document Delivery facility (ILL/DD).
Student Enrolment: Student enrolment is about 17,000 and includes foreign students.
Halls of Residence: Currently, the University has limited accommodation in six halls of residence namely, Adehye (Females only), Casely-Hayford (Males only), Oguaa, Atlantic, Valco and the Kwame Nkrumah Hall (Mixed).
Medical Services: There is a University Health Services which is headed by a Director of Health Services. Currently, the hospital has a 33-bed capacity with an Out-Patient Department (OPD) capable of attending to over 300 patients daily. There is also an Environmental Health Services Unit which deals with general sanitation on the campus.

INFORMATION FOR FEE-PAYING APPLICANTS
Fee-paying facilities are available for candidates/applicants who are unable to meet the competitive cut-off points determined by the Joint Admissions Board.
Applicants who wish to be considered may complete and attach the fee-paying forms (available at the sale centres) or downloaded from the university’s admissions portal to their printed online application forms. Such candidates shall be required to meet the minimum admission requirements. Copies of last year’s cut-off points for the various programmes are available at the sale centres for guidance.

SCHOOL OF MEDICAL SCIENCES
Applicants who are applying into School of Medical Sciences should note that the programme is strictly fee-paying.

  1. Ain’t nobody got time for bubble baths – if you need to cleanup in college that means hittin’ the showers, and although that’s where things are supposed get squeaky clean, a closer look might prove otherwise.
